Ingredients

Black Peppercorn  – This is the most distinct and widely-used peppercorn in existence. All peppercorns grow from the same vine (piper nigrum). The black peppercorn grows green in colour, before turning yellow when it ripens. It receives its hardened, black exterior from drying out in the sun. Black peppercorns have a moderately hot and aromatic taste, and it is commonly used to add flavour to any dish.

White Peppercorn  – White peppercorns are picked once they are fully grown, and they received their white exterior from being soaked in water for a number of days. Once they are done soaking, their skin is removed, revealing the white exterior. These peppercorns provide a hot, earthy, and creamy taste.

Green Peppercorn  – These peppercorns are picked long before they reach maturation, resulting in the green colour. They are extremely aromatic in flavour, and provide a freshness since they are picked before ripening.

Pink Peppercorn  – Pink peppercorns are not “true” peppers, since they grow on the mastic tree instead of the piper nigrum. Compared white and green peppercorns, pink peppercorns are most similar to black peppercorns, except that they have a slightly more acidic flavour profile with a hint of sweetness.

Benefits of Pepper

Prevents Breast Cancer  – A study done in 2010 by the Cancer Research Center at the University of Michigan found that pepper contains a chemical known as piperine, which works to prevent breast cancer. Researchers mixed curcumin and black pepper into a solvent to increase the bioactivity or curcumin. They found that the solvent prevented stem cell proliferation, but did not affect the function of normal breast cells.

Improves Skin  – White pepper contains characteristics that can speed up the metabolism to improve skin microcirculation. When the pepper will be rubbed on the skin, it can help to remove dead skin cells. To accomplish this, you can follow this recipe: one of cup sugar, a half cup of tasteless massage oil, six drops of orange flavour oil, and a handful of pepper. Make sure you stir this mixture well.

Expels Nasal Congestion  – Pepper is a natural decongestant, and peppercorns can stimulate nasal mucosa cells that dilute the mucus. To accomplish this, you simply have to put pepper in front of your nostrils. This opens up the nose, relieving cold symptoms. This effect seems to work on a variety of different people. When someone is a little stuffy, they can put pepper in front of their nose to stimulate what will be a continuous sneeze. Sneezing reduces the feeling of nasal congestion.

Antiseptic and Antibacterial Properties  – Summer is the prime time of year for gastrointestinal diseases, where people are prone to diarrhea. Pepper has an antibacterial effect, therefore, inhibiting diarrhea. For those worried about toxins in their seafood, sprinkle pepper on your seafood before can remove some of the possible toxins, giving you more security when you are enjoying seafood. It enhances the flavour profile as well!

Increases Appetite  – Pepper has a special smell, which can stimulate human taste buds. This, in theory, can increase your appetite.
