Main ingredients and Functions
Whole Grain Wheat – While refined white flour is becoming a burden on our health, whole grain wheat is an easy, healthy alternative. Unlike refined white flour, whole grain wheat works to improve heart health and protect the body against diabetes.
Triticale – Triticale is an oft-forgotten wheat. It is known for being a high-protein grain, with twice as much protein compared to rye. Triticale is also a good source of folate, which helps the body with brain development.
Rye – Consuming rye is an excellent way to help you lose weight. Refined white flours are easy to consume, but eating rye fills you up very quickly. Water molecules within rye bind together very quickly, which helps to promote the feeling of fullness.
Barley – Although many of these grains are high in fibre, barley might be the most fibre-fulfilling grain on this list. Barley is renowned for its high-fibre content, along with being a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
Oats – You can counter the bad effects of food that isn’t good for your heart by eating oats. Oats are heart healthy, and research from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration shows that oats can help lower your risk of disease.
Millet – Get your daily dose of vitamins and minerals by consuming millet. This grain is especially high in B vitamins including Niacin (vitamin B3), which can help to lower cholesterol.
Flax – Along with barley, flax is also another grain that is very high in fibre. Flax is also a good source of omega-3’s, which work to improve brain health. This is another heart-healthy grain to include in your diet.
